Journalists are constantly searching for ways to captivate audiences. Drone photography offers the ability to provide a unique perspective by capturing a bird’s eye view of a scene.

While these eyes in the sky give storytellers the ability to show an entirely new perspective, they are also presenting legal and ethical challenges.  To address these issues and to meet the FAA’s license requirements, the Poynter Institute created a set of drone journalism workshops that gives journalists a chance to get their wings.

Wes Pope of the University of Oregon is one of the educators working to help journalists learn this new storytelling tool.
