At the 2013 Online News Association conference in Atlanta, minority journalists in leadership roles across the country shared their perspectives on diversity at a meet-up which attracted almost 100 attendees.
The meet-up, said ONA Director of Operations Irving Washington, was planned to welcome an increasing number journalists of color who work in digital attending the conference this year. The event was open to all attendees.
Although about 13 percent of journalists in newsrooms are minorities, almost 90 percent of newsroom supervisors are white, according to a 2013 diversity report from the American Society of News Editors.
